Bolckmans Group relies on Odot as its permanent partner for energy issues. The family business, which has been active in commercial real estate for more than 40 years, has built up an impressive portfolio of mainly logistics and industrial sites in strategic locations in Belgium.
As a forward-thinking player, Bolckmans Group is fully committed to sustainable innovation — from renewable energy solutions at its own sites to new construction techniques and its own sustainability label: Bolckmans Future Proof.
“As a family business with more than 40 years of experience in commercial real estate, we know a lot about sustainable construction,” says Andy Vergauwen, CEO of Bolckmans Group.“But we needed additional expertise in the field of energy management. Odot proved to be the ideal partner for this.”
The collaboration with Odot consists of two parts:
⚡ On the one hand, Odot supports the company with energy accounting: analyzing, optimizing, and managing energy contracts. "Odot immediately conducted a thorough analysis of our contracts," says Vergauwen. "Even within existing contracts, they were able to identify duplicate costs, which immediately resulted in concrete savings. That gave us the confidence that we were on the right track."
⚡ Odot also advises on the implementation of green energy solutions and their financial feasibility. "Odot goes beyond numbers," says Vergauwen."For example, they recently researched a battery case for us and looked at how we could make such an investment profitable. These processes are also very educational for our teams—all knowledge is shared, which strengthens our ability to make thoughtful, sustainable choices."
Simulations showed up to a 60% difference in return.
During this strategic guidance, Odot performed various simulations. These showed that there were several options for optimizing the returns from surplus electricity, albeit with very different business cases, some with differences of up to 60%.
Odot also gave the Bolckmans team new ideas for optimizing the value of the energy generated. Among other things, the possibility of a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) was investigated—a long-term agreement whereby surplus energy can be sold directly to a customer.
“This approach opens up new perspectives,” explains Vergauwen.“It gives us the opportunity to use our sustainable production not only for our own use, but also to derive economic benefits from it. In this way, sustainability is becoming a profitable pillar of our strategy.”
The collaboration between Bolckmans Group and Odot demonstrates how knowledge sharing, strategic energy management, and innovation go hand in hand with sustainable growth.
